Why a high-frequency charger is the better choice

29 August 2022

To charge a battery, the correct amount of energy must be regained within the available time. Although fast charging can be convenient when there’s little time, the subsequent high charge and discharge currents can damage the battery and reduce its lifespan. Using the appropriate charger prevents this. In this blog, our Energic Plus experts compare low-frequency and high-frequency chargers and explain why the latter is usually the better choice.

Low-frequency chargers

Low-frequency chargers, also known as conventional chargers, can be identified by their bulky size and weight. Despite being the most common type, these chargers are also highly outdated. They generate a lot of heat, resulting in a capacity loss of up to 30%. They are also far from cost-effective, as they consume a lot of energy when switched on and typically charge batteries to only 70% capacity on average.

High-frequency chargers

High-frequency chargers, on the other hand, are lightweight and compact. Operating with lower and more precisely tuned charge currents, they are 87% more efficient than conventional chargers. High-frequency chargers can select the correct setting for the battery with precision at any given moment. They also consume considerably less energy and have a low inrush surge current, resulting in lower long-term costs

In short

High-frequency chargers are the better choice because they offer the following:

  • Maximum energy saving.
  • A longer battery lifespan.
  • Reduced heat generation in the battery.
  • Lower water consumption.
  • Compact size and light weight.
